Having returned to the track in exceptional form this season, Avoid Lightning has opened as and maintained favouritism in betting markets for success in the 2014 Dark Jewel Classic, currently offered at a quote of $4.40, ahead of Miss Stellabelle ($6), Aerobatics ($6.50) and Two Blue ($7.50).

Will Avoid Lightning justify favouritism and win the 2014 Dark Jewel Classic, or can one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Lilliburlero ($8)

Claiming four wins and three places from her 16 competitive appearances so far, Lilliburlero offers punters exceptional value for success in the 2014 Dark Jewel Classic at current $8 odds, or $2.75 for a place. While unable to figure in contention in her most recent start, the Redoute’s Choice mare won the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 22nd and finishing second behind A Time For Julia in the Group 3 Roy Higgins Tribute (1200m) most notably. Allocated the central barrier 7, trainer David Payne is confident of a return to the winner’s circle for Lilliburlero this weekend after reportedly working well this week.

2nd

Avoid Lightning ($4.40)

Arguably hitting career best form over three starts this preparation, Avoid Lightning is a great chance of continued success in this weekend’s Dark Jewel Classic, despite drawing the wide and somewhat awkward barrier 11. Producing a notable turn of foot to charge from the rear of the pack and finish fifth in the Roy Higgins Tribute first-up, the Blevic mare took advantage of prime running position to finish a nose in the clear of a fast-finishing Plucky Belle in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) on March 29th before once displaying a notable sprint to finish second in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) last time out.

3rd

Seaside ($8)

Claiming three wins and four places from just 13 competitive starts, Seaside offers punters sensational value for money at current $8 odds to win the Dark Jewel Classic, or $2.75 to run a place. Steadily building to the task at hand this season, the Redoute’s Choice mare won the Hyland Race Colours Fillies Maiden (1400m) and finishing third in the Ezymart 3.y.o (1400m) on February 2nd most notably before also recording some positive results in Group level events. Allocated the ideal barrier 4, Seaside has been confirmed to be partnered by talented jockey Kerrin McEvoy and is a great chance of maiden Group level success this weekend.
